Clare Valley Wine Region

by admin on August 8, 2011

Because of their fine tradition of family winemaking that reaches back from the mid 1800s, in Clare Valley you’ll still find handpicking and small yields that are loving nurtured to harvest time a common practice among winemakers.

The legacy all began when a small group of Jesuits, departing from Austria’s religious persecution, migrated to South Australia’s free colony where they picked a location near the town of Sevenhill Cellars to build their winery of the same name. Originally,  their grapes were used for the production of sacremental wine and to this day, a fourth of the wine produced is still for this purpose in Australia as well as internationally.
