Coonawarra Wine Region

by admin on August 8, 2011

Everyone’s heard about Coonawarra for both it’s robust red wines and it’s bountiful terra rossa soils that the vines thrive on.

It’s also in an incredibly accessible spot,  right between Adelaide and Melbourne making it an ideal stopover when driving between Victoria and South Australia.

The 20 km length of the renowned limestone based soil entitled the Coonawarra Cigar is the location of Coonawarra’s 25 cellar doors, having all of them conveniently placed on one side of the Riddoch Highway.

With one of the best cellar line ups, at Coonawarra you’ll find, Hollick Winery, Bowen Estate, Rymill Coonawarra, Yalumba, and Wynns Coonawarra Estate…together earning Coonawarra a number of recent international awards. Coonawarra has also won the Jimmy Watson Trophy for Australia’s best one year old wine more times than any of the other wine regions in Australia.
